God is a Wakeboarder
After this eventful day in Ukkohalla at the 11th Cablewakeboard European Championships God proved twice that he actually is a wakeboarder.
Georgous blue sky and 25°provided perfect conditions for the first qualification rounds which affected both the riders' mood and the performance.
The Mini Boys, which were noncompetitive, were supposed to demonstrate from what age the sport of wakeboarding can be practised. The 10 year old little guys proved the direction in which the sport is developing and will definitely stimulate others to ride the board, too.
The junior and open ladies were fighting for their place in the finals on saturday. The first to qualify were Mayanka Jansen (NL), who landed her first ever S-Bend, Victoria Young (GBR), Sophia Marie Reimers (GER) and Sophie Cordery (GBR) for the Junior Ladies. In the Open Ladies category the tickets for the finals went to Kirsteen Mitchell (GBR), Steph Caller (GBR), Kathrin Oegretici (GER) and Astrid Schabransky (AUT)
The Wakeskater, first time ever presented at the Europeans, also needed to pass their qualifications in both the Open Men and Juniors categories. Tim Schwiertz (GER), Lukas Suess (GER), Frederik Küpper (GER) and Moritz Thiele showed their skills on the wakeskate and convinced judges and spectators.
"Simply awesome" commented moderator Clint Liddy from Australia.
Andy "The Kid" Kolb showed a solid performance on highest level and set himself off with more than 15 points. Together with Franz Lacherbauer (GER), Maring Scambora (SVK) and Michal Paska (SVK) they will be in the finals.
That God is a real Wakeboarder was shown with Marie Lehmann from St. Germain (France). After she crashed really badly between corner 3 and 4 and was lying for a couple of seconds motionless in the water. Thanks to the fast reaction of befriended riders and the safety team of the Ukkohalla Wakepark she was transferred by the first aid team very quickly to the hospital. We all hope she will be fine soon and is able to enjoy the final days as a spectator. Marie, all the riders thoughts are with you.
On Friday morning at 8:30 the next qualifications will be held. Then the stars of the wakeboard scene will be going on the water. 9 out of the current top ten riders from the CWWC World Ranking will start.
Something strange happened this thursday, too - Maxine Sapulette missed her flight and couldnt do the qualification rounds. She missed the chance to qualify directy for the final and will fight for her place in the finals in the LCQ rounds. Maxine is the current no. 1 Lady of the world.
