Prize Money from IZMIT paid at 70% - ID+MA filing for bankruptcy
In September 2010 after the Cable Wakeboard European Championships in Izmit, Turkey, IWWF hosted the World Trophy, a cash prize event with $100,000, with the event agency ID+MA as a partner. The event was a great success however afterward the agency failed to pay out the prize money to the riders. The IWWF has now paid all affected riders 70% of the money from its own budget and the riders have granted permission for the IWWF to pursue recovery of the money through legal channels.
IWWF is a worldwide organization reliant on the work of volunteers. This situation was unexpected and unfortunate for everyone, not least the riders. In light of this there has been a policy change in the IWWF to ensure that we nor the riders are exposed to this degree of risk. In future the IWWF will not sanction and allow any cash prize event if the cash prize is not paid before into the IWWF accounts.
The organizing agency in question is now filing for bankruptcy. Although there is only little chance to recover the money we have asked our lawyer to make a legal claim for fraud against ID+MA.
The Cable Wakeboard World Council would like to express their regrets about the situation and wish all the riders the best of luck for this year's competition season.
